I'd like to step up to the electronic environmental controls. That preset temperature thing is brillaint.

When it works

The electronic climate controls are one of the few things I miss about my LeSabre. But then again, I'm a major Geek, and almost anything slightly computer-ish gets me kinda sticky

And... I'm pretty sure the "black ball thingy" in the middle of the dash is the light sensor, thus the warning not to cover it

I thought thats waht the black thing was at first but its not the light sensor. Its on the left hand side, a round black circle with a blue dot in the middle. Cover it up in the daytime and in 3 secs. the lights come on. I tried it. The black ball didn't work. So bonnieSSE was right. Its the thermometer. Tempeture sensor thingy. Well Ilike I said the security doesn't work. I wish I remembereed my RPO'* that way I could tell if i had that feature.

Almost... the deeply tinted (not black) dome in the center of the dash is the Solar Intensity sensor for the air conditioning, which distinguishes between hard, overhead, blasting sunlight and more indirect rays, although I have to admit I didn't think cars with the manual (C61) air conditioning had that. (Maybe yours really _is_ a black piece just acting as a filler for the hole...?)

Well like I said the security doesn't work. I wish I remembered my RPOs that way I could tell if I had that feature.
If I get a chance tonight I'll try looking that up in the manual.

The one in the middle is the solar sensor for the automatic climate control.

Nothing. I thought the car came equipped with it and if it did, I want it to work.

Ah, always nice to have stuff work when its there... I remember when we bought our 91 transport they asked if we wanted the security system.. It used a second key that was an electronic kinda key under the dash. The car wouldnt start unless both were in at all, but we didn't want it. So they tuned it off, and kept the key and we had that little hookup key thing just sitting there...

So, since I don't have the Automatic Climate Control, I just have a black platic bump on my dash? Or, does it mean (ihopeihopeihope) that if I can find an ACC panel at a scrapyard I may be prewired?
