Bought aftermarket warranties on our last 3 cars, and all 3 have paid for themselves, and more.

97.5 Regal GS - purchased with 81k w/ aftmkt warranty $1300 - 2 years, 24k miles
-Remanufactured transmission ($2200)
-2x Wheel speed sensors
-1x Window regulator
-1x Digital climate control system
*Paid for itself, warranty over*

02 Dodge Grand Caravan ES - purchased with 11k aftmkt warranty $1800 - 7 years, 70k miles... This stuff was covered after the factory 3 years, 36 mile warranty ran out
-Rebuilt "autostick" transmission
-Digital climate control unit
-2x swaybar endlinks
-Heater core
*Paid for itself, van still has ~1 year, ~9k miles left*

99 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited - purchased with 92k aftmkt warranty $1200 - 2 years, 24k miles
-Climate control system (known problem, cost $800)
-Driveline "overhaul" due to driveline clunk (cost $1000)
*Paid for itself, and going to have the 4WD system serviced, due to not engaging in 4 Auto*

Us, buying used, opt for these aftermarket warranties from the dealer, yes we read the fineprint, and make sure they are not a huge pain (which they haven't been whatsoever) to us.

Since I am buying this car from a GM dealer I am eligible to buy the GMPP MAJOR GUARD warranty even though it'* outside of it'* original warranty. Here, below are some online prices. In bold is a discount price I found online, $2435.00 for a no deductible. The dealer is beating that price at 1820 for the same thing. If I understand this right, it'* a 48month/48K from date of purchase (todays date when I purchase it). So I get a full 4-48K warranty. I am going to confirm this when I go pick it up later today. Thinking about it more I agree with the comments above about NOT buying an aftermarket warranty.

I think it'* a good deal for the MAJOR GUARD warranty, if not, Please tell me why before I buy it. I have to buy it at the time of purchase to be eligible.

The dealer'* price of $1820 did have a $100 deductible, it was $1920 without one.
I did get the GM Major Guard. for $1920 4yr 48K mile warranty with no deductible. So the car is covered like new for a while now. Thanks for your opinions everyone.

If you were inclined to by any warranty at all (and obviously you were!), you got the right one, in my opinion. I've seen some people like their aftermarket warranties, and I've seen some HATE them. I've never had a customer that was dissatisfied with a GMPP.

I think you made a wise choice. I got the same warranty when I bought my car. It was very handy on a trip when the water pump went out, I just pulled into a GM dealership, handed them my warranty, and they immediately went about fixing my car. My local dealership also caught many issues during regular oil changes, and in my case the warranty paid for itself. When we got my wife'* Grand Prix GT at 2 years old with around 40,000 miles, I didn't get the warranty, because it would have only been good up to 60,000 miles, and we reached that fairly soon. As it turns out it would not have paid for itself had I bought it.

You just need to weigh the benefits against the potential downsides. You got the right warranty. The warranties that are only good at the place you bought the car are absolutely worthless, I've seen several cases where they string you along or do a half-@$$ fix to get you past the warranty, instead of properly repairing major parts.
