New transmission
I've arranged to drop off the 99 SLO at Triple Edge Performance on the 12th. It'* going to have a rebuilt transmission with all sorts of upgrades, including a 3.29 FDR with a 4T65E-HD differential and such. It will be awesome!
The way I'm getting it there is I will start driving it from Indianapolis and up I-69 toward Ft Wayne. If the transmission blows up, I'll get it towed. The thing is that I have AAA with their sub-100 mile free towing package. I'm about 110 miles away, so any headway is headway!

We could meet up when I go to get it. That would make for a much better meet anyway, don't you think? Then we could cruise around. I'll see if my local GP forum has some people available for the pickup date, which I don't yet know.

Is it any better or cheaper to get the transmission rebuilt or drop in the GM transmission from the dealer. My local dealer has the tranny for a little under $2000 not including labor. 3 year 100000 mile warranty.

The Triple Edge Performance transmission has a 1-year, 15K-mile warranty. It'* a whole lot better to have that put in because it'* the same price but you get better parts. Have a look at the parts list of the 4T65E High Performance Street/Strip model:
