Thumbs down Navigation Updates

I recently ordered, received, and installed the 'latest' navigation system map update in my 2016 Equinox. The package is labeled 2018 North America. No problems doing the update but afterword I happened to look at the files located on the USB flash drive. It'* interesting that the files are dated in October of 2016.So my 2018 update is 2 years old. They (gmnavdisc.com) claim to update maps roughly every year. I sent them a message similar to this one, indicating that I'm pretty disappointed and feel like I've wasted money. As expected I received no response. So if you've purchased an update or are considering it be aware of what the 'latest' update really is.

That is the norm with any Nav update. It'* usually 1 or 2 years behind. This is why I am glad they introduced CarPlay and Android Auto. On the other hand we would not even need to update if they incorporated Google Maps.

So the create date(*) on the file(*) is/are 2016? Or are we talking about the file name(*)?

Any new streets show up in your satnav?

I don't know if there are any new streets. It would have been a good way to gauge the worth of this update. I could only go by the dates on the files - not names. The only current files are the license file; set so that it only works in my vehicle, and the report file; created when I applied the update. Here'* a flattened view of the directory structure.

Give me a Garmin, any day.......GM uses the radio or the cluster(Onstar) for GPS......makes you take your eyes off the road...put mine right at the bottom edge of the WS, to keep my eyes on the road.....updates are free(just have to add an SD card to the unit).....

Yeah looks 2016 to me. I'd ask them about that.

Yeah, in the beginning when smart phones were crummy, in-dash navigation was way cool to have. Now that smart phones are so good and Google is so good, I wonder how they can keep selling satnav in cars . . . unless they auto-update through cellular or something.
