Default Maintenance Rant

Ugh! People that don't maintain vehicles have no business owning them.

I don't pretend to be perfect here, and feel that I maintain vehicles fairly poorly by my standards, but what I keep coming across is atrocious. In the Regal, I just pumped out about a gallon of transmission fluid through the dipstick tube. As I hit the bottom, the pump blasted air through a nearly full gallon jug. Of course, in doing so, fluid sprayed everywhere. It wreaked of old hydraulic fluid. This is probably the original fluid that has seen 20 years of service. When it splattered on the white paint of the car, it was pretty dark red and obviously had a dark grit suspended in it.

No wonder the tranny wasn't eager to please, and was boarding on iffy

3 quarts of Dex VI, and one bottle of Lucas tranny goop back in, and then the affected area got sprayed with degreaser and hosed. I was planning the pan drop as the next move, but I would feel better if this gets repeated again before that happens, just to help the old/new fluid ratio a bit.

Here is to hoping that junk that I just pumped out is not what is keeping the tranny together.

That sucks. Hope it is ok. I am a service writer in a dealership and it blows my mind how people refuse to do maintenance on a $20k and above investment. It pisses me off, to be honest. Apparently people would rather spend 3500 bucks or more for a new tranny as opposed to 160 bucks for a flush.
