Tough to say. I'm not familiar with the Canuck market, and only have a rough idea of the exchange rate. You might consider buying an year or two older than your budget will allow, and save the money for mods.

10K, even in Canadian money, should get you a nice 96-99, even an SSEi, with a buck or two left over for mods, I'd think. I got mine at a "Newer Used Car" dealership (read "Higher priced than normal used cars") for 8 grand US....

I got my 97SSEi for $10,800 Cdn.
I had to fly to T.O. to get it, because the ones around here were selling for $13,000 Cdn and they weren't even an SSEi.... no supercharger.... blah.
Make sure you get a SCed Bonnie.... if you like speed of course
