Somewhere else on this forum I posted that I was getting really rotten mileage, however the wife took the car to Salt Lake City and back for a total of 2200 hwy miles. I had her keep track of gas purchases for the trip, and according to my figures, she averaged 30.5 mpg. I guess the car likes the higher speeds on the freeways.

Keep after it. You'll get it.

Plugs and wires good? No vacuum leaks? Good fresh fluid in the trans? Tire pressure correct?

Thanks....I have the plugs and wires on the schedule. Copper NGK-TR55 .60 gap
I was planning on Belden wires. I was going to go online for these. Are they a better price online?

Trans. fluid replacement. I have no transmission isues, so I think a flush is in order.

EDIT: vacuum leaks.....where do I start looking for those?

Don't worry about it, even a little city driving can drag down the combined number quite a bit. I drive 60 miles a day, with probably 50+ highway, and the small amount of city driving drags it down to around 24-25 even though I get 30+ on the highway.

yeah, even with a poolie, i get about 28mpg. i drive 52 miles(round trip) to/from work mostly hwy, but the usually short street driving/hwy traffic/accelerating drags it down to 18-19.xx mpg avg. I DEFINITELY have a heavy right foot, though.

When I first bought my car it was at 22MPG highway. Its now around 29. Changed the plugs, wires, air filter, O2 sensor, fuel filter and cleaned the tb to fix it. Well worth the investment.

Skippy...recent experience with TJ was that the warranty on Beldens is a pain to use. Autolite Professionals or AC Delco are just as good from th Parts America group Advance/Checker etc. and they store your phone number for warranty. You won't be badgered for a box and receipt both before they will make good on the warranty. (Anyone tell that Napa got under my skin on that one?)
