do you ever hear an air compressor kick in when you sit on the trunk for a while??

do you have an aircompressor in the engine bay?

what about the trunk underneath the carpet?

You can look up inside the wheelwells and check for an air hose. It should be clearly visable.

I have never sat on the trunk.

I have never heard a compressor kick in, but then I'm married and thus have lost most of my hearing.

I do not see a compressor under the carpet, but then I'm half blind too.

If the compressor was under the hood, where exactly would it be?

There is a line of some kind attached to each rear strut, but they look too fine to be airlines...they look more like cables to me.

Is there a code(*) in the suspension sticker that would tell me for sure?

I dont know the RPO code for the ELC. it sounds like you may have it, under the rear wheelwells do you see a very thin plastic hose exiting out of the strut near the top?

I think late 90'* the compressor is located behind the right rear tire tucked into the bumper cover, at least on Bonnevilles anyway. Look on the cover of the fuse panel above the driver'* feet. On the bottom side will be a fuse label. Find the one that says ELC and see if you have a fuse in that spot.

Look at your rear struts. You should have air lines and rubber bladders. Look under the right rear control arm. You should have a level sensor attached to it.

Agree with WillWren and 1993, take a look at the strut for the airline. It is usually clipped to the body of the wheel well and attached on the inside wheel well side of the strut to keep if from being damaged.

When at the passenger side..the compressor would be visible, however it is mounted inversly on a bracket and may be hard to recognize as a compressor.
