In the early days of racing Jap cars, I noticed that everytime I used a Fram filter, it would take forever to see the oil pressure rise during the engine start. I also noticed that everytime I replaced the filter, it hardly had any oil inside. If I used the OEM filter, the oil pressure would rise as soon as I cranked the engine and during replacement, it would also create a mess due to the fact the filter was full of oil.

Also, I had friends that race the Toyota 2-TC, 3-TC, 8-RC, 18-RC and 20-RC engines. If they used a Fram filter, the timing chains would wear out and make noise due to the fact the engine did not keep the oil pressure at high RPM'* and the chain tensioner would not push enough on the timing chain.

I have helped many friends with home-built airplanes with Lycoming engines; many of them have wiped-out engine bearings and cylinders when they used Fram filters. They switch to Hastings and do not see any problems. When they do aerobatics, they do see oil pressure fluctuations with the Fram filter and do not see any with the Hastings filter. The Fram filter does not have the spring and the Hasting brand does.
