if you do end up bypassing the resistor, its super easy to get at the wire. i had to remove it when i replaced my moms ign harness. (same car, same year) you just gotta take off the dash bezel and get a torx bit to take off the steering column cover. my key is pk3, and i really dont wanna carve up a good key. but this is a really cool idea and ive gotta say im kinda wanting one.
for those looking in the future, the pk3 has the same little bean thing as travis' key, but its under the rubber part. youve gotta cut the rubber off to see it.

i havent really figured out if it will work with our cars being that we have theftlock and they dont mention it that i can find, but i think this might be a much cleaner, better looking solution provided it works with theftlock.

i cant figure out if you need to get the adapter or not. if so im gonna pass. otherwise i might just spring on this.

haha nice, and no problem. ive been looking for a project to get me back into not wanting to sell my car again. kinda bouncing between this and a led conversion.
my only issue, is its gonna look kinda wonky in the ignition itself. the ignition is made to hold the key, and has those rubber ends so you aren't putting those torsional forces on the key itself, twisting it. and the little fob part is going to be at a 90* angle from those.

what does your key look like, my 98 bonnie is the vats that has the pellet. my 99 yukon is the pk2 which is similar but the resistor is in the ign. nothing in the key. pk3 has a transponder chip in the key.

You can get the leds on eBay for really cheap. I ordered a pack of 10 194 bulbs for a couple bucks. The reverse lights were $2, and my 3157 DRLs were a little over $5. You can get those cheaper, but they were the only 6000k temp ones.my only issue, is its gonna look kinda wonky in the ignition itself. the ignition is made to hold the key, and has those rubber ends so you aren't putting those torsional forces on the key itself, twisting it. and the little fob part is going to be at a 90* angle from those.

only reason i know its got a chip under there is my valet key wouldnt start the car, and i peeled off the rubber and found a little tiny chip in there with no resistance at all.
ive been looking into the leds... only issue im having is what resistance resistors to use, or find a kit. my tail lights take 8 3057'* and 2 194'* by themselves lol. 3rd light is 2 194'*, and side markers are a 194 per side. front turn sigs are 2 3057'* a piece, that alternate the 2 lights when flashing lol.
also, looking back at alot of samzgxp'* posts, it looks like im gonna need some type of current leveler or whatever he called it. $ is adding up quick lol.

Damn. That'* a lot more complicated than mine. lol. I only had 4 194'* in the trunk, 2 for the license plate lights, one on each corner of the outside tails, one in the side marker of each headlight. 3157 in my DRLs and 3057 in my brake lights. I don't have the brake lights done yet, and i'm waiting for the rest of my 194'* to come to do the other ones.
it seems the PA changed over in 97, i havent found any rhyme or reason behind when they change over the specific model. it doesnt make sense to me.
as far as the ebay flip key you can see if it will work just put the good key up next to the ign and use the valet key to start the car, that should work. the other thing with remote start or keyless entry i would imagine would have to have the adapter interfacing your cars wiring. im not giving them my email so i can see the instructions.
