I saw a posting a while back about a conversion kit to fit the northstar ( unfortunetly to a fiero ). And was wondering about the swap into the Bonnie. I'm assuming they have the 4t80 tranny ?? I know braces and engine/tranny mount may need some customization along with a new pcm ( probably from the Caddie ? ). But how would the pcm effect all the other electronics?? I"m actually debating over that at the moment.. lightly mod the L67 for now.. bank up the money for a northstar tranny swap. My main problem right now is finding out about the emission ( mentioned also..) . I'm in Ontario.. and as far as I know.. they go judge emission by the car you have.. and what engine is available for the car. Not what engine you decide to throw in there. Speedguy... Which size would you go ?? The 4.6 or the 4.8 ??

I know of a guy in Toronto with a 4.9 done up to 300hp with 4 catalytic converters on it so it would pass. It didn’t lose hp form the catalytic converters. Yes you can do it, and it will roast racing slicks every time. Tones of torque. Now if you are after the holy grail (high revving 4.6l) of sorts where you will find the problem is the computer. No way around it the Caddy computers after 96 Suck. You just cannot do much with them. That said for any gm up to 95 you could get the chip re-burned with new shift points and all and the result would be awesome. Yes it could be made to pass smog. I have a kit in the works but I need more interest or capital before the next step. If given the cash tomorrow within a month or two I could have it done. The computer will take up to another 3 months, but that’* it. So if anyone has an endless American express call me. There are many many people who have perused and dropped this idea because of computer issues. I have the concept and will soon have a company on line that will give me a price to get it done. That price will then be posted and I will do some PR work to try and make it happen. The 4t80-e is a great tranny and can be made to handle 700hp without too many problems, but it is a very tight squeeze. I have a line on all the parts and solutions except I have to get the computer issue taken care of before I sell a kit. Also I found the people redoing 4.6 for dune buggies and hotrods don’t like working with us. Seems they have way to many idiots bugging them. Actually they have people harassing them for there R&D all the time and these guys don’t want to pay for it. LOL No wonder they are ed. So I have lined up another shop that can do the 4.6l heads and cam. The engine will fit. The 4.9 have a solution and are even lighter than the 4.6. The 4.9 merits are the weight, hp, and lumpy cam. I am working on a 400hp 4.9 as well. 400 is the magic # I am after. I will gladly take more but 400 is needed. Actually once again if you have the cash I can turbo a 4.9 for you and get the 400hp, but I want it without a turbo. I will have this engine on the site. Actually its on the site the site just isn’t ready for the net. LOL

You can always get a variance and I have talked with many of the guys in power and the variance really depends on your attitude and driving record. As long as the emission is good to excellent there is a way. The goal of smog is clean air not low power.

Sweet... keep me posted speedguy.. I would definitely buy the kit when it'* available.. ha ha.. unfortunetly if I have that kinda money to spend into R&D If I did.. I would be looking at throwing a Viper engine in there ha ha ha Never have too much power. Would it be easier to supercharge the northstar or turbo? I always thought turbo requires an intercooler ( for predetenotion more ).

Turbo is easier to physically do because a SC will require alot more work to make fit.

The problem is the glass. If I don’t have the hinge pop out a bit right when the door is open it will mean I need to do structural body work. So the hinge will be a bit tricky. That said I can’t wait.

Oh and as for frenching antenna'* well don’t worry I know all the rules*lisp*. LOL

Not only does the Benz 6.0L V-12 deactivate one bank of cylinders to conserve fuel, the N* does it to. In case of coolant lose, one bank of cylinders shuts down to dissapate heat. I believe the current gen. of GM'* truck engines have the same feature.
