Default Diesel truck guy just got a bonneville-help

hi guys. i have had diesel trucks my whole life and just bought a 2001 bonneville ssei and i need ideas on what mods to do. looking on this forum i have seen guys using hp tuners and dhp? i already have efi live for tuning my 510rwhp duramax that i have done myself, but i am completely new to gas engines. does anyone have any pointers on tuning my car with efi live? it is completely stock with 84,000 miles. i want to gut the airbox and put on a pulley and exhaust. what size pulley, what exhaust and what air filter? i know for turbo diesel trucks k and n is not good but are they fine for supercharged cars? anything helps.

thanks guys
-Justin

Congrats on the new car. I'm sorry I know nothing about that software. I use HP tuner. You will need to make sure your software can connect to a GM 3800 v6 engine. Most people here use a K&N cone filter and you can use a rice pipe to connect to the throttle body. For pulley size, I suggest no smaller then a 3.5" and even then you will need to scan for KR, Knock Retard.

As for your exhaust, that will depend on how far you want to take the car. You can have a flowmaster or magnaflow series 80 if you have a single muffler, or series 40 if you have duel. And you can go from there. A 3" free flowing cat, 3" down pipe, a powerlog front manifold, or PEMs, or headers.

Hi Justin. I've been in the forum a very short time, but have learned an incredible amount. Danthur'* mentioned some very easy power/torque boosting mods that will bring the true beast out of your SSEi. I've gutted my air box, installed a K&N filter, opened the exhaust to 3", installed a Goerlich hi flow cat and duel 14324 Magnaflows, installed an Intense Racing modular pulley system and a 3.5 pulley, Gatorback belt, MSD coils and Taylor Wires, cooler plugs, a 180F thermostat, EBC Ultra Max Rotors and Red Stuff ceramic pads.

I am very happy with what I have done and my Bonny seems to appreciate it!

That covers just about all the basic mods. After that things get move involved. But those mods will give you car a bit more kick.
