i dont think they would put a 80 in a 5.3 truck. and the 60'* are failure prone. you want to upgrade not put in another failure prone used unit. im lazy, i only do hard things once if i can help it.

I would look for another 4L60E that was bolted to a Chevy GenIII motor. So that would be some 99 trucks and large SUVs, and 2000-2006.

The Late 4L60-E transmission has a three piece case of cast aluminum alloy; bellhousing, main case, and tailhousing. GM shortened the package to 21.9" long. They use this style from 1997-2006.

All I am saying is that the OP should really check the Pan to see for sure 100%..

We can sit here all day long and say get a 60 cause that'* what you have.. then he goes out and picks up a 60 only to find out he'* got a 80.

The 80 did come mounted to the 5.3 if it were ordered with one ! I know I have a 02 1500 with an 80.

I agree that he should check the pan.

Other ways to tell if it'* a 4L60E: The big plug with like 12 wires on it is plugged in on the passenger and the 4L60E only had one vehicle speed sensor.

I checked out my sub and I have 16 bolts and a pretty much square pan meaning a 60 I guess. Are there any vehicles with this tranny only that I dare to buy without checking on first? like if I were to buy online at a salvage auction? Im leaning tword just having it rebuilt. Can I have it rebuilt to the 80 specs to be a little tougher? It started acting up at 90000. Pulling over 2000# it slippes in 2nd gear . Shifts kind of goofy also. The rpm'* go up just before the shift to 3rd. Someone told me , if I have it rebuilt to make sure I have the electronis inside replaced also. I plan on having this sub another 10 years. I have 5 bonnevilles 2000-2002 in my family with 140000 miles being the lowest . My Sub cant let me down.

the monster minion is 1400, torque converter is 300. it has a 3 yr warranty also.

i would go that way especially if youve got a heavy truck and tow stuff.

if you decide to go with a local rebuild make sure they know the proper upgrades to make so you dont have problems.

Stealth- I figured they just put the 80 behind the 6.0 in the 1500hd'*. its likely not popular, most people probably coudnt describe what a trans even does.

i was looking at trucks last winter. i was looking for trucks like yours, subs, and tahoes/yukons mid 90'* with 100-150k. more than half had the trans replaced already.

you can never tell if its maintenance, how they drive, towing to much, etc. most people dont have much good to say.

thats not to say it cant be made good by the performance shops. mine has 160k on it and hasn't failed but if it does im going to go with the monster in a box from monster trans. im sure it wont be long, i mainly use mine for towing car trailer and camper.

Bubba looks sweet . I might look into getting an older truck. I had a 2000 1500 white with pewter rockers . when the kids started college I realized how much money I didnt have. , It had to go. I couldnt part with my sub , Its great for hunting trips and just everything
