I am currently running and have been running 1024x768 and have had no issues with it exceeding the edges at all.

And if width is not an issue, then why was that the only issue mine was brought up under, even though it just fits? I'm not trying to be a dick, but it would be nice to have a clear explaination of what exactly is acceptable BEFORE everyone starts coming underfire for being Not Acceptable.

The ideal solution is something automated, something in the forum code that could check sig size and enforce dimensional restrictions. That'* easier said than done, but it'* being mulled over nonetheless. To be continued, I suppose...

As a suggestion, don't allow image calls in the signature, but offer a a photo either above or below the text, then run the picture through a filter that compares total dimensions? The board uses PHP and I think I might have something laying around that does that using imagemagick if its available.

The Admins and Moderators, along with Jeff are discussing options.

In the meantime, your displayed signature width depends partly on the browser of choice and the text size and other options your browser is configured for.

If a Moderator or an Admin asks you to change your signature, it'* not out of malice or spite, but rather for the good of the Forum as a whole.

Please abide by the requests until/depending on other options that are being explored.

The challenge is devising a way to do it without needing to process the image at runtime. This points to storing the photos locally so that the calculations can happen once and the image can't be changed after the calculations. In other words, something like the avatars.

Duh. Didn't think that through all the way. You don't want to get stuck hosting 5,000 sig pics.

I had been asked a while back to make mine smaller, even though I had the same sig for at least 6 months.

As you can see it has been this way since then ( few months).

If I remember correctly in the notice,
As a reminder, I ask members to be mindful of our dial up friends.

Please edited your signature images to be no bigger the 250x500 or 500x250 pixels depending on orientation.

Thank you
which my pictures are. So I may suggest that alot of people read it again, including you Will ( your 94px too wide, LOL). Mods and admins are supposed to be setting examples. My pics combined are no bigger than the maximum width and height.

Just a suggestion, to keep everyone happy, or at least try to, hehe.

But my sig pic is only 100 pixels tall. Not 250. The reason I did that was to show people that they could still have a decent sig and keep it SHORT. The combined pixel area of mine is still FAR smaller in pixel area than the limit. And my text is far shorter, too.

Couldn't agree more. I have often seen only a single line of post yet my screen is filled at 1024 x 768. I find it a huge turn off and eventually tire of the scrolling and novel reading and subsequently leave.

I have never seen so many large signatures on any other site. Cleaning these up will be a huge benefit to everyone.

Cheers,
