Default UPDATE!

Well here is an update.

My buddy got his car back YESTERDAY. I was talking to him this morning and from what he said, the new harmonic balancer DID go out on it ( probably at the shop), when that happened it threw off the timing and screwed the oil pump ( what he told me). The garage also took the bottom end apart since it was making bottom end knock when they got it running last week. They changed the timing chain, crank bearings and a few other things. The guy at the garage told him that his bearings were down to the copper.

After all is said and done, it was over 2000$ worth of repairs and of which my buddy pays 0$.

So I guess it was a blessing in disguise for him, got all that extra work done for free and it would have had to be done soon anyhow.

Sounds to me like they screwed it up, causing the oil pump prob, and the burnt up bearings happened as a result.

I'm still concerned about the car running, selector in D, and the the gas being pressed. If the car revs, and doesn't move, either the shift cable was attached incorrectly or the TC is slipping like a bad dog. If it was timing, it wouldn't even run.

Well the timing issue probably happened at the shop, since it was running with all pulleys turning when he got it. He was even shown the Harmonic balancer when he went to check on it, he said it was in pieces.

He said the car runs better than it did when he brought it in, it is much smoother now. SO I guess what ever was the problem they fixed that and he got the bottom end rebuilt for free.

Don't confuse new bearing with rebuilt bottom end. They may have only replaced the bearing and not sent the crank out to be turned. Although if done properly then it should be great for years.
