Default 92 SSEi SC help

Hello everyone,

i posted this in another section which might be the wrong place so i thought i post this here as well.
i am a noob here and to the Bonneville'* also. My dad owns a 92 SSEi. When we bought the car the owner told us the car has the "bigger" supercharger with a smaller pulley.
Now the SC is toast and knocking and rattling like hell and looking for a new SC. Now how do i check or how do i know what exactly SC is in the thing? Its 92-93 that had the smaller SC'* and then 94+ had the bigger chargers? The cars previous owner might have added the SC from the newer Bonnie but i dont really know that. So i need to find my dad a new or good used SC but he would rather have the bigger charger ofcourse.Car has a 3" high flow exhaust and a K&N cone air intake.

Can i just get a SC from a say 96 and put it on my 92? Or is it more complicated then that?

Also the car runs all messed up, when u come o a stop at a light the idle drops and sometimes stalls out , it also happens more when turning at a very slow speed , the car would start but re start no problem. Someone told me it might be the crank sensor or something. GM here in Toronto wants 100 bux to test the engine for EACH sensor that might be causing this problem. So before i do such thing i want to know if anyone had such exprience. I am going back to more reading and searching on this site.
But if anyone has some input please feel free to help out this lost man.

Thanks in advance
Tom

Only a M62 (series I */C92-95) will fit. The 94/95 weren't bigger by any means, but they were more efficient, and therefore got a larger pulley making the same boost at a lower RPM.

If you're doing the 94/95 you'll need the */C the Throttle Body, Maf sensor, and possibly a few other things.

Correct. The M90 will not work. Describe your rattle. Is it only at idle? The SC should outlast the entire car if it'* properly maintained.

easy way to tell if it is a 94-95 or 93 and down would be size of tb . I guess it would be on back side of TB below the throttle linkage there will be #' like mine is RHA70-**** if it has 70 then it is 94-95 if it has a RHA57-*** it would be the older model.
I went to local junk yard and picked the 70mm (94-95) up with Throtle body for $350
but like willren said it is not common for hte sc to go bad if it has been half way maintained

I've got a 92 with a 94 SC and TB, with a 2.3" pulley. To use that throttle body, you'll need a AFC calibrator. The rough running you are experiencing could be caused by poor airflow readings by the MAF. The unit from ZZPerformance works wonderfully.

You may just need a coupler to fix your blower. You can also get that from ZZP.

You should probably figure out which SC?TB?pulley combo you have. Measure the diameter of the pulley, see how thick the base of the SC is on the corner closest to the driver, where there is a bolt. If it is like two inches, its a 92/93 sc, 1 inch = 94/95 (I can't remember how thick it actually is, but close to those). Also, any possibbility that you can get the inner diameter of the throttle body? 96+ had the M90 sc that has a much longer snout on it. It is unlikely the previous owner managed to adapt one to your car.

BonneMEmn,

yes been reading and saw that the bigger SC runs more efficiently cause it does not spin as much. So therefor the 2.5" pulley from the 92 is matted with the big SC in an upgrade .

willwren,

it rattles at idle like really loud. Emberassing actually. When the car is in drive and going seems to be boosting cause the stock boost gauge moves on the gauge but that even most of the time works in negative to 0 then the needle doesnt go past zero. Sometimes if it feels like it the gauge will start boosting from zero and read all the way doen, its weird. Also the SC whines nice and loud with the K&N and pipe. But i dont know what boost its running, just have stock gauge so its usless.

Sc3800fiero,

i will try to check the TB #

jwickoff99,

thanks for the info. Now the car is slow for what it should be, i mean a 99 4 door cavalier automatic STOCk walks away. Now is that normal? lol

So i tried looking for something under the hood but i dont know the car well so many shields and **** all over i didnt bother checking tonight. All i know is i can take the CAI pipe off and get to the MAF and from there check what TB is on there. My cars engine bay is dead empty, little 4g63t on Haltech , much more simple then when i pop the hood of this beast haha.. anyway..

So if my dads SSEi has the stock 92 SC and pulley there shouldnt be a reason for needing the AFC calibrator correct?
I will try to check the SC base thickness, pulley measurment and see if i can check #'* or something on the TB. Now to check the TB do i remove the MAF with the K&N piping or remove the TB with everything?

Now i also hear some pinging at times , depends on what gear it happens to be in and what speed im doing. Always use ultra 94 from sunoco and nothing less. Something is really messed up with this car but i never really knew anyone who knew about these cars , fixing them let alone doing them up. I mean my dad done mild performance work on this Bonnie but nothing big, and still lose to a 99 cavalier. This car needs some serious work with someone who knows this car or like what you guys are doing is helping me figure out and teaching me which i appreciate . I know my imports much better specialy DSM'* but i took liking to my dads car for the last month and a half while my car has been in the shop hahah.

Thanks for all the help and info, if you got more to add please feel free.

Thanks
Tom

The SC rattle or what it is , its only at idle and the pully shakes and moves around when it spins at idle. That i noticed while under the hood and engine running.
As soon as i am at a traffic light with the break on the car idles radical and stall sometimes also , so when the rpms drop lower then idle it really ratles and i pop it in neutral rpm drops it quiets the rattle but doesnt go away till i tap the gas and bring the revs to say 1500 rpm and then you cant really hear it.

What you guys think of this ebay item? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...tem=2452718857

i could use the 92 pulley on this . What else would i need?
AFC calibrator? Where can i get this? zzp? they have a web site?

Also i think i have the short neck SC, cause i saw one on ebay that was 7" to the pulley and mine is not that big.

For starters, your coupler is shot at the very least.

Also, you can't tell a visible difference between the 92/93 and 94/95 SC. That'* why we need to know which TB you have on the car. You can simply remove your intake pipe and measure the OUTSIDE diameter of the TB inlet. In mm please.

Your pulley wobbles? We need a better description of that. Also, remove the belt and move the pulley by hand, back and forth. Is there any play? If so, the coupler is definitely shot. This is a do-it-yourself project for under $100 in parts.

You also may be having a wastegate problem if you're getting varying boost as you describe. This might be a slipping belt, however. Do you have good tension and a good belt on that?
