Tach reads 7000 rpm
My 3800 1989 Bonneville runs great. The tachometer shows 7000 rpm except when idling when it reads 5000. The car purrs when at idle. There is no slip when transmission shifts and no hesitation ever while driving.Car has 205,000 miles on it.
Could the tach problem be electrical?
Thanks for any help with the tach.

Being as old as it is, I would have to agree. You will have to take the cluster out and resolder the connections (cleaning up all the old flux would be a good thing to do too). Check your bulbs while you have it out too!
