Mine did the same thing, only it was intermittent when driving. Tearing apart the battery cables, thouroughly cleaning, and putting dielectric grease solved the problem.

From techinfo.

Clean all the connections, and along with around the ribbon cable, check and resolder connections where the boards connect together, and where there are heavy parts.

Mine seems to "shutdown" every time I get off the gas and "reboot" every time I accelerate. "But officer....."

To throw in one more possibility, did the stereo work? When I installed the first HU in my car, I lost the dash because of bad insulation on one of the stereo wires. Blew the same fuse that ran the dash (which made for a wonderful drive to work at 10:30 PM)

For purposes of others searching for answers on this topic, the instrument panel / dash / gauges flashing on an off are frequently the result of blown transformers, both digital and analog, inside the IP. Pull the IP out and take it to an automotive electronics repair. Transformers are about $75 each. YMMV
