Default Instrument panel light

1995 SSEi with twilight sentinel.
Few weeks ago when I turned headlight ,the instrument panel lights didn't work. After turning **** few times it came back. Yesterday I turned headlights and instrument panel light doesn't work again.Compass and driver info display are dimmed and no clock illuminating,no other lights when headlights on either with twilight sentinel or just manually .Everything works including radio (even though without seeing what station it is,when headlights are on).
Is it headlight switch shorting? There are no burned fuses though.

Thanks for help in advance.

The '95 Bonne'* have a pretty common problem of melting at the connector to the switch. Most replace with 96+ switch that seems to be an improved design.

Thanks for links.I've already read both of them. Tomorrow will go to GMC dealer to get new switch and boost control solenoid(gives Quad module fault code) I needed for a long time and every time postpone it.Now there is no excuse to not to go
Anybody ,is it hard to pull out that lower panel when replacing headlight switch? I 'm afraid not to break it accidentally.

The lower dash panel is easy..start at one side and work your way across..it'* only clipped on.

The headlight switch will wiggle out w/o disconnecting the wiring. Check the wiring before you head to the dealer. If you'd like a deal on a 96-99 switch and wiring pm me.

I assume you mean the BIG lower trim panel that goes around the vents, radio, climate control? If so, there are several clips that hold it on at several points all along the edge of the panel. Just begin slowly prying (ijust use my fingers) around the edges and pop each retaining clip straight back towards you. You will get the feel of it once a couple of them release. Haven't broken any (yet) but take your time and be careful.
