Inaccurate gas gage
On my beloved '01SLE, from reading the other messages I apparently have a bad sending unit. The gage stays on full until the actual fuel level is less than half, then it starts to move. DIC system works as long as I remember to reset it when I buy gas. Is the sending unit part of the fuel pump assembly under the access plate in the trunk? Can it be repaired or replaced without removing or replacing the pump? Anywhere to go to get some directions? I'm not an expert mechanic, but I'm not totally inept. It has 36K miles on it.

Generally, the sending unit is attached to the pump, and you're better off just replacing it all at once.

I was afraid of that.
Thanks for quick response! Fuel pump looks to be ~$300.00 I guess I'll wait til I win the Powerball.

LOL....
Well they're attached to each other in the tank, and generally as a rule of thumb, the sender'* will go out shortly before the pumps do....So it'* just insurance really. As for directions, try to find a Chilton'* or Hayne'* manual for your car, they can guide you through a fuel pump I would imagine.
P.*. 4000th POST!!! W()()T!

if you run it out of fuel it is a lot easier to change the fuel pump though..probably a $100-$150 part. labor is nasty when there is fuel though.
