Default Gas Gage Problem

Anybody else expereincing problems with their gas gage? My 01 reads perfectly until it hits 1/2 a tank and then the needle goes back and sits at full. When the tank is nearly empty and then the idot light goes off and the needle falls to empty.

Any thoughts on how to fix this?

Thanks,

Rob

I would have to agree with Bill. The fuel level sensors on these cars fail prematurely. You can access the the fuel sender through the access plate in the trunk. I'll look up some resistance readings (full, 3/4, 1/2, 1/4 etc) that you can take as a troubleshooting measure.

My gas gauge has never really been accurate so I just check the driver information center and see how much gas I've used. I always have to make sure to reset it when I fill up, though.

Alright, sorry it took a while. These are the Fuel Level Specifications:
E = 40-77 ohms (1-2 gallons)
1/4 = 129 ohms (6 gallons)
1/2 = 165 ohms (10 gallons)
3/4 = 204 ohms (14 gallons)
F = 233-250 ohms (17-18.5 gallons)
Low Fuel Indicator "on" = 100 ohms (3.5 gallons)
Low Fuel Indicator "off" = 106 ohms (4 gallons)
All readings taken between pins A & D on connector C420 Fuel Pump and Sender assembly.

Hmmm... my low fuel reading always comes on when I have 2 gallons left.

I guess my low fuel warning generally comes on with 3 gallons to go, I usually put approximately 15 gals in to top off.
