Default Help... my HUD mirror/lens fell off?!

97 SSE

So I hit a bump while driving and my HUD goes out. Not completely out... I could still see a faint glow of green.

I look into the HUD from outside my car, and it appears that a mirror or lens something has fallen out of place! I can still kinda see the HUD through that though, and it looks fine.

Now I need to access the HUD and try and put the lens back, but I have no idea how!! People say to pop off the defroster panel, I tried and just can't get it to come off. I'm scared to death doing this cause I don't wanna damage anything worse!!

Can someone give me detailed instructions on how to do it? Preferably with pictures?? I am a complete newb at this and have never done anything like it before....

You may have better luck starting from the passenger side of the car and working towards the HUD on the trim panel. That worked better for me on both cars.

Once you get the panel off.. then the hud is in with IIRC 4 7mm screws...also can use a phillips head screwdriver.

If the unit is bad..holler...I've got a "spare" laying around.

How to I pry it out? I've tried really hard but it seems pretty solidly in there...

be very careful.. that piece has been sitting in the sun for years and is very bittle.. do not use a screwdriver... use your hands or maybe a putty knife

Is there anything else I have to remove first?
I tried a putty knife, and it still wouldn't come up, it felt as if I tried any harder I would crack the panel....
I tried it from the passenger side too, no luck? Remember I have absolutely no experience in taking my car apart :(

nope.. it comes out only by prying on it..

if your luck should take a dump, and you do crack it, there are plenty of members that could help you get another one
