Well I fixed my problem. It was a bad ground on the drivers side under the dash behind the hood release on the left side of the door jamb. I wire brushed the ground wires and reattached them and everything works now.

good to hear that worked for you, i'm going to go out and give that a try mine is getting worse. i don't think the DIC/compass/gauges have worked once in the past week on my car. i've thought about just sending the cluster off to a repair shop, but then again the problem may not even be in the cluster. :?

i tried to find this ground today but couldn't find it :?: on a side note, my cluster hasn't worked in over a week. today i turned the ignition on, no workie as expected. so i pulled the underdash fuse and it looked rather old (discolored metal spades). i put it back in and i checked to see if the cluster worked and it did. i don't know if it was a coincidence or what. we'll see.

Dirty corroded and discolored have a tendancy to not work so well.

Remove the trim piece around the hood release and you will see 2 wires running to a ground screw directlly behind the hood release lever. Also try replacing or swapping the fuse under the dash.
