OK. Let'* set a few things straight. I have the schematics for the car, not the Compass. Meaning the wires going to the DIC and Compass. It is in the factory service manual. If you don't have one of these I suggest you get one. Check this out http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...category=34232

The mesh stuff is commonally known as solder wick. Check this out

No it is not reusable.

*sigh* damn.. I was really excited there.. I have the factory service manual too. I've checked the voltages.. they are all good. that'* why I knew it was something in the I/P when I bought the new one.. everything was fine up to it. Which I guess I was correct.. but now I have to figure out the exact problem, because I am NOT skimping on this.. there is no way.

okay, i'm heading over to radio shack this afternoon.. I am going to try to put the display from the old one to the new.. if that doesn't work, i'll have the display off on the old one, and will be able to get into some circuitry I haven't been able to access.. so either way it'll be good.. but i'll be sure to practice this method on a POS mobo that has some parts I need! lol

Not sure if this is helpful-but--my compass comes on occasionally--doesn't matter what I'm doing--driving, sitting still, etc--but it does come on. Sometimes it'* for a few seconds or even a few minutes, but it does go back out. my dic hasn't worked in a few yrs! When I 1st got the car it would also occasionally come on--but it hasn/t flashed in a few yrs.

Nothing really, however my DIC works everytime . Once I resolve my coolant leak [waiting for a new gasket], I will move back to the IP for setting it up with the correct mileage, and some cleaning. While I am there, I will check out one I idea I have, by jumping the wires that don't work on the old Compass, and see what happens. If I find life, I will know what needs to be fixed, if I see smoke, I know I did something wrong . I'm thinking sometime this weekend I will get to working on it. As long as all goes as planned in schoolland, and fatherland.
