Default Tail lights dont work- urgent problem

My tail lights dont work and i know it isnt the bulbs, because i checked for power and there isnt any. All of the lights work on the front, and my backup, brake and turnsignal lights all work. I always get off of work at nights and if i get one more ticket they;'ll hang me for sure. Also, a while back when i was adjusting my dash lights, i turned them up too quick and suddenly they all just quit. IM not sure when the tail light problem started, but could it be a bad relay in my switch? thanx

You mean just the running lights on the back don't work, But the front do?

If so, Me and Dad suspect the switch right off the bat. Lemme look at the schematics right quick to see if there'* a split somewhere.

Did you check the filaments in the bulbs? I did notice that the 2057 bulbs have dual filaments. One of mine had broke last week and needed replacement. I think it was the lower one, the steady burning one.

I know that the headlights arent getting any power. I checked it with a multimeter. It has to be a switch right, not a relay, because if it was a relay, something else would turn on when those turn off.

The switch at the brake pedal controls your brake lights.

I could tell you the joint numbers, but they're of no help really. You'll have to follow those lines back to try to find the break.

Okay, your headlight switch has only one output to all the exterior running lights, and that'* the solid-brown wire, so if _any_ running lights on your car are lighting up properly, your taillight problem is not due to a bad headlight switch. (By "running lights" I mean your front parking lights, taillights, license plate and side-marker lights front and rear.)

It also does not use a relay; it turns on the lights directly through the switch.

So let'* pin down exactly which bulbs are not working:

-- Your front parking lights are fine, yes?

-- Do your rear license plate lights come on?

-- How about the red side-marker bulbs in the outer corners of the taillights?

-- Do you have a Driver Information Center in your car, and is it telling you that the bulbs are out?

(As for your gauge backlighting that suddenly went out on you: You may have cracked or broken the rheostat in the headlight switch that controls backlighting brightness. Have you found any blown fuses?)
