I am new to the site, so I am not sure if I have this in the right location (sorry if I don't). I have a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville SLE with an anti-lock brake light on. I know I can take it to the dealer and pay them to check it, but I can't see paying them $60-100 to simply readout the codes and then pay however much to have the actual issue fixed. So I was doing some research and found that they make some OBD to USB cables so that you can readout certain data from your car computer to your laptop.

My questions are:
(1) do they make such a cable that will connect to my Bonneville and readout the ABS codes?
(2) If they do, is there anything in particular I need to keep an eye out for (i.e. - special interfaces or programs)?

there are some cheaper OBDII code readers that can read check engine and abs codes but, it maybe cheaper to just get the codes pulled at a local shop (don't go to the dealer!!!)

I checked the auto shops in the area and they also want a similar range for checking it. I know they make the readers that can check it, but I was just wondering if the OBDII to USB cables worked as well (i can't find any definitive answers anywhere, only suggestive ones).

A local autoparts shop should be able to read the codes, something like autozone. And it'* free. Not sure about the 2000, but I know the 2005 will give the ABS code as a C code. And that will tell you which wheel is the problem, such as RF WSS error. There are ways of testing the sensors if you want to take that route. Chances are you either have a corroded WSS plug, or the WSS went out all together. That will require you to change the wheel hub because the WSS is built in to the hub.

Getting a enhanced code scanner wont be real cheep. A friend of mine paid about $200 for his.

the crappy part about that is youre just going to find out whats wrong you still have to fix it.
