We were recently at a Pontiac show in Gretna, NE where they attended & had two Fiero'* with the painted taillights.
I'm looking for an extra set of Fiero GT taillights to do this to now.
There'* also the VHT NiteShades spray tint that may help.

I just cut 1/4" wide stripes out of a low tac vinyl. I cut the stripes so they would be longer than the taillight. I start the stripe just to the inside of where the black on the light starts and continue the stencil off the other end. When all the stripes are laid out I take a razor knife and cut the other end just to the inside of where the black out starts. I make sure to prep the surface prior to taping, then once taped I spray with trim paint. I am sure you could use a 1/4" masking tape, I use a product called stencil mask. It is much easier to work with.
