Hi everyone,

I have noticed lately some gooey substance on my car that won't wipe off easily. It looks to be road tar, tree sap, or something similar. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove it safely, without damaging the clearcoat? It kinda bugs me

Hood,roof,trunk,door panels.......................where????

I've heard WD-40 and a real soft cloth. Just let the WD-40 sit a couple of minutes and gently wipe.

Sounds like black gooey stuff, I get that sometimes. It smudges when you rub your finger on it, but it doesn't come off with your finger....? Bug and Tar Remover is perfect for that. Spray some of that on, let it sit for a bit, and rub it out. Works great!

Thank you Gentlemen for your help. I have some WD-40, so I will try that first. If it doesn't work, I'll get the bug and tar remover

Some of that road crap, if not removed can do more damage to the clear coat then anything that can remove it, not to mention it brings the look of the car down. :?

make sure when you do use the WD-40 or the Bug and Tar, you wax the area again, thoes cleaners take the wax off if the car

I'm a painter in a Pontiac Dealer and if we have to remover road tar we use are gun wash thinners (laqur thinners)this will not harm your clear coat(the clear is meant to with stand that kind of stuff). For bug guts beleave it or not glass cleaner works best the arosole foamy stuff prefurubly (other then the special cleaners the paint company supplys) and for tree sap the ONLY thing that will take it off with no side affects is warn-hot soapy water and a soft rag or old tee shirt.

P.*. If you have a bird **** on you car GET IT OFF A.*.A.P . if you leave it to long the only way to fix it is to REPAINT the panel( and beleave me it still some time shows back up!!!

If none of the above work...try Goo Gone..it'* the most freindly stuff I've found.

True. They make that in a gel-like form now, in a spray bottle. Great for sticker residue. Love that stuff.
