I'm in the process of changing the valve cover gaskets and cleaned the motor twice using an engine degreaser, then power washed the engine. The covers are a lot cleaner now except they don't look as good as say Willwren'* among others. How do you get them to be squeaky clean and since we're on the topic, how do you go about painting those strips? Did you mask and paint with a brush?

You can always do what I am doing...go to the junkyard and look for the Camaro/Firebirds that have the 3800 in it and snag its covers...they are aluminum, not plasiglass (or whatever it'* made from) that other makes have. Got them for a song at my yard, and now they are being mediablasted...after I get them back, going to paint them with high-temp red and have the little strips natural. Should look sweet.

i used Bleech WHite and a ToothBrush, and i was really happy with the results

Find the right solvent (don't recall what I used, but I think it was Castrol Super Clean). When they're clean, mask and spray. Don't do the rear cover. If you ever check your fuel pressure or bleed the pressure, it'll dissolve the paint.

I used hi-temp ceramic header paint.

Do NOT get Castrol Super Clean on any painted surface. It dissolves it, which is why I have it on hand. I used it to completely strip the OEM paint from my GTA hood vents in the 93.
