Default Portable music devices

My new Impala is having some difficulty with music devices attached to the infotainment system. First, my Galaxy S5 plays fine, but the song titles and info never changes, but stays at whatever the first song was. Second, my iPod nano 3rd gen connects and plays fine, but tends to stop after playing a song, and I have to hit play to continue with the next song. Sometimes the iPod plays fine, sometimes not. Usually if I change playlists, it will play for a while, then stop on a random song, and I'll have to hit play again. Any ideas what might be causing (especially the iPod) either of these problems?

I like the idea of using a dedicated mp3 player like the iPod, because it doesn't use up my battery on my phone. I wouldn't mind buying a new mp3 device(if that'* what it takes), but I'm not sure which would be the best in the Chevy.

Are you doing this via Bluetooth, auxiliary jack, or to the USB port?

Touchscreen radio? If yes, do you use the Apple CarPlay app on the touchscreen?

The iPod is an old (2007 or so) iPod nano that connects through USB to the touch screen. The Galaxy S5 is connected through Bluetooth. Apple Car Play is installed, but the iPod doesn't appear to use it.

See what happens when you use the USB port, instead of Bluetooth, on the S5........I rather use the USB port, because it charges my phone while I am using it...
