I have a 2002 Monte Carlo SS with naturally aspirated 3800. I have replace 2 oil pressure sensors now and they both have failed in the same way. The sensors simply blows the guts out of middle of the sensor and then oil just pushed around the plug and dumps oil on the ground. Both times the sensor has failed iv gotten luck and cough it before I took off on long highway drives. If this sensor would fail going down the highway I don't think it would take to long to pump the oil pan dry. I do not know what sensor was in the first time could have been stock and I replaced it when it failed with a BWD sensor from O'reillys. That sensor just failed and I got it warrantied but I want to know why they keep failing in that way. I don't want to lose a motor for something stupid like this!

Don't buy the cheap ones. Get the AC Delco ones.

But even then, they will fail sometime down the road.

Of course, there is a final solution. Remove the electronic sensor, and install a hydraulic hose in its place and run it to the dash board and install a mechanical sensor. Then install a resistor at the OP harness to fool the PCM into thinking its seeing 40psi.

I'm old and easily confused but by hydraulic hose I take it you mean a 1/8" nylon or copper line to a mechnical gauge rather than a sensor.
