depends what you want. the supercharged engine has like 240hp and the ls4 has like 303. the supercharged engine can be made equal with maybe a pulley swap and a tune. (not real familiar with the l67 might need injectors and fuel pump or something too). the ls v-8 has a ton of mods you could do too. most ls parts are a bit pricy though. i think stock vs stock they get about the same mileage. most people that want an ss dont care about that though i did and i got the ls monte

04-05 3400 monte ls, wont win any races, but get great fuel efficiency and are as reliable as 3800 engines. they use alot of the same parts. 00-03 had some intake gasket issues like the 3800s can cause hydro lock if not proactively taken care of. i had a late 03 3400 that i got in 04 put 200k on it with very few issues, didnt get into the engine at all. part of my job is driving all over. i never had an issue so far where i couldnt get home with a wbody v-6 with the 60degree engine. i have had 4. my 3.1 gp i took to 300k

what about the difference between the 3.8 */C vs the non */C ,big performance diff? I found a 03 pace care with 27k miles on it..will it be hard to go to a */C car like my 03 bonneville to a non */C ..i do like the performance boost i get..the bonne is heavier than the monte carlo..

alot of the feel is gears. my bonnie sse has the regular 3.8 but it has 3.05 gears, the se and ssei have like 2.70 or 2.80. and the hp and feel is not that much different. so i would guess it would depend what the monte had. its definitely lighter. my 3400 monte had 2.86 or something like that and the bonnie felt faster like 0 to 40 or 50 but at highway speeds it was noticeably faster than the bonnie. on paper the 3400 only has 180hp and the na 3800 is like 200 the */c is 240. i think they would feel pretty similar unless you drive alot of city or stop and go, i think both 3800s have little more low end torque

found a few places on the net that list the monte ss fdr as 3.05 for the NA and 2.93 for */c. so it will feel faster than just a regular se bonnie. or 3400 monte
