Default Low Oil Engine Pressure Light Impala LS 2000

Hi again guys, i was driving arround my impala ls 2000 and this light came on, i immediately stoped the car and waiting soem minutes then checked the oil it needed 1 quart to be full, so i putted some on it, and then started the engine, everything was ok, until like 20 miles later the light came on again, so since i was near my house i stopped the car, scanned it, it has no code stored, made a freeze frame and the only thing i could get with scanxl about the oil was life 55% and pressure but in volts? 0.002.

it does have a oil leaking problem, you can see some oil arround the plastic covers on the sides of the engines.

so two questions, what should i check besides changing the gasket set? im going to take it to a mechanic near by like 2 miles from my home, i was thinking that they should check the oil pump?, i really dont want to move the car.

also which one is better?

First, is it oil level or oil pressure?

If oil level, find the source of the leak. Usually oil pan, valve covers, intake gasket or even the oil pressure sensor itself.

If oil pressure. Gaskets won't fix this. What you need to do is verify with a mechanical oil pressure gauge what the oil pressure is doing. There is a good chance that your oil pressure sensor crapped itself. A good sign is a lot of oil in electrical connector at the OP sensor.

If your oil pressure really did take a dump. More than likely, you have catastrophic engine failure probably due to coolant in the oil which ate away at your bearings. You are looking at a complete rebuild which may be cheaper than a short block.

Oil pressure.

i see, well the light comes on and off it do not stay on, and yes theres oil near the sensor.

im going to test the pressure to see, if the pressure is ok, is the sensor thats bad?.

holy....i hope is the sensor thats bad..im not planning to rebuild that engine, or build block, i would prefer to use a bicicle hahaha.

also i scanned the car and it does not have any error code i found that weird, is it ok?

If the mechanical gauge shows at least 30 psi you should be fine.

A quick check is, remove the harness and if you see oil in the inside of the sensor, where the contacts are, the sensor is leaking, and needs replacement....

I changed the sensor it indeed was bad, but the problem now is intermittent, you start the engine and is ok but if you move the car or wait sometime the low oil pressure light comes on and then off, on and off it does not stay on.

When the pressure was checked it was more than 10 psi o.o
