96 chevy cavalier 2.4 liter engine noise?

hey guys found out what it was i called gm and they gave me some tests to do one of them was to take the serpentine belt off and run it to see if you get the noise so i did n boom its gone so its the alternator

jwfirebird has a reputation beyond repute

you spin the alt and it felt weird or noisy? because there are other things it could be that are driven from the belt.

Did you try and start the engine with the belt off to make sure it'* in the serpentine system?
