Default 2015 Impala Limited Fob Programming

Hello All,

I have a 2015 Impala Limited (2006-2016 body) 3.6 V-6 6R75 transmission. Yes, it was a rental car in a past life.

Trying to add factory remotes. No idea what happened to the originals. There is no option for "Relearn Remotes" in the menus and the local dealership has told us it requires 1.5 hours of their time to program them, and they will only program remotes we purchase from them.

So . . . I have two questions:

Is there a way to self-program on this car?

What kind of device would I have to buy in order to do this myself and not have to pay the dealership stacks of money every time this comes up on my various cars? I'm serious on this one. I've been wanting to get a diagnostic device (beyond a Bluetooth thing to read telemetry) for while and now I think it is time. Would help with brake bleeding with ABS and other diagnostics as well. Thoughts?

Thanks!

GM MDI kit, runs about $1000. Then the software to install on the PC, then the cost of a subscription license.

You are better off paying the one time fee at the dealer. At least then, its warrantable.

Blegh. That'* what I was afraid of. So since I dislike that thought so much I still want to ask: There'* no Acctron/Harbor Freight/etc. unit that does this?

HIGHLY unlikely sir.

Even HPTuners will only touch the PCM/TRANS ECU and nothing else. Not even Bi-drectional control of the ABS system to do the ABS bleed procedure.

Every thing these days is proprietary modules/software. GM would have to release the source code for other companies to develop their own software to access these modules. They don't want to do that;. Its the same thing here in the heavy duty truck world. Certain check engine lights REQUIRE our dealer level software to clear the fault.

Manufacturers are making it VERY difficult for the home/shade tree mechanic to work on these things.

I wish they would bring back the 3 wire engines. LOL

I understand it. But I don't have to like it. Right?

Maybe I can find a dealership auction and buy one of their PCs.

Interesting!

Looks like it'* from India. It'* Dorman though, so I'm not too scared of it.

I didn't know that this kind of self-program type existed.

One issue with this car: I got the option sheet printed out from a dealership and there is no individual line item that says it has RKE. It was a rental in its first life so I can't imagine that it didn't have RKE. I've rented a lot of these and all of them had it.

I'll keep this one in mind and maybe give it a try.

Yeah I've always done well with Dorman stuff..

The seller said you do not actually need a working key FOB, so it may work if it was installed..

You only get to program 3 times, so you need to make sure you do it right, or you can waste a program...

Yeah that was the interesting part to me. I guess they have to make it destroy itself after a number of uses or else they'd only sell one programmer.
