I have a 2004 Chevy Classic 2.2. The drain plug on the transmission pan is leaking. Anyone know what size it is? Or a part number from Autozone or Advanced? The drain plug has a drip and I hate to tighten anymore. I can take out the plug and change the gasket without losing fluid, but not for a ride to the part store. It kind of looks like an aluminum gasket.

I don't think that came with a drain plug in the transmission pan. I bet it'* aftermarket.

It could be... Most of the after markets I have seen are like a bolt and nut (nut on the inside). Then the bolt head is tapped for a plug. The red ring (gasket) is trans fluid. I think the washer is metal. I was guessing it was an aluminum crush washer. ??? As you can see it is still dripping.

Guessing with my luck if it is aftermarket, and I try to remove it, I may lose the nut and open a can of worms.

You'd need to figure out if the threads are stripped on the plug or in the pan.

It does not seem stripped... It is pretty tight. What is your opinion about it being a factory plug? I guess just pull the trigger and drain it to look and see. I was going past Orielly'* yesterday and they had no gaskets even close to that size.

Ok, I pulled the plug and looked it over. It looks like a factor job. The nut is captive. Does not look welded in. Paint on pan is all intact. The washer looks like a copper brake line banjo bolt washer. It seemed a little dirty and was not very flat. Kind of rough from being stamped out. I polished it with some coarse then 1000 grit sand paper to make it nice and smooth. Filled it back up and will see. Thanks for ideas.

BTW another gm no trans dipstick....

Can you post a picture of the drain plug hole and surrounding on the pan?

Bummer all sealed up and did not get a picture. 24 hr later, no leaks at all so good to go.

As far as info. I did not see any spot welds like the nut was spot welded from the outside to the nut. (Or like the pan paint burnt from a weld.) The pan went right to the hole and did not look like it was refinished. Smooth hole, not like it was drilled. I could not see much more on it, since 20-30 min later it was still dripping pretty well, after removing plug.
