02 Suburban Z71 total electrical meltdown today! Help!
Hi guys!
After at least a year of no problems whatsoever, not so much as a dash light besides low washer fluid, my 2002 Suburban with 175k miles had a complete and total electrical meltdown today. I am going to try to describe the problem. It happened in this order.
I was driving down the highway, it got hot enough to turn the AC up, I change it from 2 to 4 and POW...
-Battery light turned on...
-No more AC fan at all
-No rear AC fan at all
-No gear selector display
-No cruise control
-No odometer display
-Flashing 4WD selector lights
-No more engine temperature indicator
-Transmission lost electrical control and shifts like hell
-Got to meeting early and checked fuses, nothing out.
-Crawled an hour back home shifting by hand in 105 degree heat with no AC... In a suit.
-On the way I stopped to have the battery and alternator checked at Autozone, they conclude bad battery and therefore can't test alternator...
-Went to Walmart to have battery replaced under warranty which they usually do... They say "battery tests good."
-On the way home SES light comes on, I pull over to Oriley'* they say "Alternator and Battery test GOOD"

U1000- Class 2 Communication Malfunction
U1096- No DTC Definition found. See service manual.
P0650- Malfunction Indicator Lamp Control Circuit Malfunction
P1626- Theft Deterrent Start Enable Signal Not Received
P1875- Four Wheel Drive Low Switch Circuit
U1026- Loss of Class 2 Communication with Automatic Traction Control
U1041- Loss of Communications with Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM)
U1064- Loss of Body Control Module/Dash Integration Module/SBM Communications
Took it to a local GM service center and left them the keys as they were headed out... Is this the end for the best vehicle I have ever owned? What in the WORLD happened to my truck? Did the North Koreans blow off an EMP in my truck?

EMP'* not withstanding, you may have a ground issue somewhere. According to some of the posts I've read in some of the GM truck club forums these trucks are prone to that issue, there are several ground wires and an engine to firewall ground strap that need to be checked. In the newer trucks anyway I believe they use the body as the ground point because of the coating on the frame. Hopefully your dealer has found the issue and please report back to us.
