I never said buy a new key lock cylinder, I was talking about using the resistor trick where the wires from the lock cylinder go into the big wiring connector above the brake pedal area.
Any key will work once you do that, as long as it does not have a pellet in it, to be sure the resistor trick always works I guess you'd have to cut the ignition cylinder wires so the resistance is only read from the resistor you splice in, that would not be a big deal if the ignition cylinder is bad though, as eventually it would have to be replaced anyway.
