Wouldn't it be easier on both parties to just have him take it to a reputable brake shop and have them replaced?

if we had that kind of money sure that would be great. He can work on it himself . However for &is 24th birthday! I would like to spare him at least the cost of the brakes . He is in NY I am in Washington
money is tight for him and us right now

You can call a GM dealer with the VIN and get the OE part numbers. With those numbers A/M part stores can cross reference. Get prices from the dealer also. Aftermarket isn't always less expensive. Hope this helps.
