Wiring harness 2008 Lucerne
If there was, it was removed. Both of these plugs come right out of the main harness that runs between the back side of the engine and the firewall, so I don't think it was added, as all the original sheathing and tape are still in place on the harness.
What is RVC system? The alternator has one large output wire, and two small wires feeding the internal (regulator)? or brushes. Not sure if this alternator has an internal regulator, or if it is controlled by the PCM. It does have a voltage monitor - an inductive pickup sensor - located by the battery so I am thinking the charging voltage is regulated by the PCM, unless the voltage monitor is for some other reason.
I think you may have hit the nail on the head. I just looked at the wiring schematic and it does show a Red (w/gray) and black wire in the same connector leading to the heated washer unit. When I looked at the component locator, it shows a heated washer tank mounted on the right side of the firewall, which is missing on my car. The first recall had dealers install an inline fuse, but that didn't work, so they were told to remove the entire unit, which was apparently done here. Good Call!
Mystery solved - there is actually a clip where the large plug is supposed to attach, right next to the small plug. There is also an empty space on the firewall where the heated windshield washer unit was originally installed. So the unit was removed as per the recall, I also checked the fuse box and the 60 amp WSW-HTD fuse has been removed also per the recall. So these two plugs were for the heated w/* washer. The wiring also (somewhat) matches the wiring schematic for this unit. Thank you Cathedral Club for your suggestion. I bought this car to fix up and re-sell, at least now I can tell the buyer why these plugs/wires are there.

Man, I have been thinking some crazy things when I saw this nonsense on the 08 model i inherited from my mom. She had bought it new and when i discovered this...i was asking myself why anyone would cut wires, leave them half bare and just hanging there. I questioned some sort of sabotage even lol. I'm glad I finally found this post!! You have no idea. I just can't understand why they'd left the wires open instead of just unplugging the things? I mean there'* a plug...why would that be not better? I mean it'* just some janky, ****** it out workmanship to leave cars like that imo.
There'* 2 separate plugs. Are both of these for that missing washer fluid heater?
Yup, that'* GM pinching pennies for you. I believe they look at it as "how do we get all of the defective units out of our hair as quickly, therefore cheaply, as possible?" while a bunch of us look at it as "Why would someone want to buy another car from them if that'* how they fix their problems?"
It'* only 12V so not really dangerous, but . . . THIS is how you repair a bunch of almost new cars while your new feature fails and you can't figure out how to fix it (cheaply)? . . . a simple feature, too: Make water-based liquid warm, but not too warm. They likely came up with this fix while drinking coffee.
