Saying Goodbye To My Old Friend...
Thank you! Yes, what you say is very true. Our neighbors are very surprised we walked away unscathed when they actually get to see the car up close and personal.
On a plus note, we did get our first round of the Covid-19 vaccinations this morning...the very thing we had set out to do the morning the crash occurred.

Mine, a 90 custom is now sold at 200 k running fine. Is replaced w same 99 Lesabre from mother in law, same deal as 90.
Like new she drove the 99 to the mailbox and back up the driveway. Did not want to fall on slippery driveway. What a deal,.and still like new and would stand out in the Buick showroom.
About the old 90 Lesabre; People always marvelled about the hood opening so gracefully. I told them that this car is my improved version of the European cars like BMW. Even the teens said Hey, this car is cool. They imagined all the interior room eh?
Yes, I am happy for your memory of the fine car, and share your sadness of the loss. It was a beauty.

I used to have fun with the opening of the hood. People never expected it opened like it did, so when they wanted to take a look at then engine I would pop the latch, walk around front and lift the leading edge as if I was going to continue until it was "up", the very quickly I would drop the leading edge and flip it forward -- I can't tell you how many people jumped at that little prank!
I liked it because it made working under the hood a snap, plus the one time I had to pull the engine (to replace main bearings), I didn't have to remove it.
I may have found a replacement ride, but I'm waiting on insurance.

The 1999 is a good one too. They didn't have any real chronic major issues except the upper intake manifold going out . . . and the coolant elbows. All of the transaxle issues were sorted out by then.

The one I liked to do on that one was pop it then have whoever was interested pull it up in front. When it stopped a few inches later I'd say "here I'll get it" then pull the back up. That surprised people too.
I'd be very interested in a 1992-2007 Lesabre (I actually have the books for a 1993) but I was leery of looking because of the K frame mount rust issue, as well as the uni-body sub-frame rust just forward of the rear wheels. I wouldn't be remotely concerned about that issue if I was anywhere other than smack dab in the middle of the salt belt. My father in law'* '93 PA has good K frame mounts but has the rust issue in the back of the sub-frame. My 90 exhibited none of the issues...it was clean as a whistle underneath.
Have you considered looking for one outside of the salt belt?
Life in the desert southwest tends to remove the rust factor, and given that the drivetrain will run forever, these are a dime a dozen out in these parts. Sun baked and dryrotted, yet, but solid from a structural standpoint, usually fine.
