This April would have been 5 tears of possessing one of best (and most beautiful) cars I've ever owned. Sadly, in the blink of an eye it was destroyed. My wife and I were on our way to get our first round of Covid vaccines when this happened. Traffic was stopped to let geese cross the road when (what we believe) was a "distracted" driver in a big delivery van ran into stopped traffic without ever hitting the brakes -- at 45 mph. We were the 2nd car from the rear of the 4 car pileup. The impact was hard enough for us to bend the seat backs into the back seat area. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured. My wife'* head and neck were a little sore from hitting the headrest, but those properly adjusted headrests and seatbelts saved her (and I) from getting injured. The important thing is that we went to bed last night in the same bed we woke up in.
There is no coming back from this one...the whole car is buckled. I'm extremely sad to see it go. The car was as clean underneath as it was above.
Sorry for you loss, but glad it was sacrificed to save you and your wife. That was a lot of energy dissipated!
Even your cover on the trunk lock was still nice :(
Glad you both are ok. That was quite the impact.
Your car was in such nice condition. I hope you can find another 4 door replacement, as they are well built & strong cars.
Distracted driver'* should have their licenses revoked.
Thanks! It was a hard hit...worst I've ever been involved and I hope the last one. The double impact was a sickening sound too. As for the emblems, they all still looked close to new, which is a rarity on these 31 year old cars.
We always got a real kick out of the fact that this car brought on more head turns in traffic, got more compliments, and was responsible for more conversations being struck up than my Corvette. Knowing we were OK, I think the people in the tow yard were as upset about the car being wrecked as I was..even wrecked it was the center of attention and the belle of the ball.
Loosing a beautiful car like that is like loosing your best friend. No doubt it was the star attraction & it turned heads everywhere you went.
I'm feeling your loss to say the least.I hope the insurance company understands that you will settle for a low mile replacement only !!
It feels just like that! To top it off, I just replaced the brakes, flushed the brake system, and replaced both outer CV boots this last weekend. This car needed absolutely nothing. I was on a mission to keep it looking like it did and running like new for as many years as I could, I had no idea that run was going to be as short as it turned out to be.
So Sad!! I hate to see that. Such a beautiful car! Glad she protected you both.
I've always loved those model yrs. I once had a mid to late 80'* Buick Park Ave and it was my favorite car ever, and very similar to yours.
I'm trying to keep my 91 Olds Toronado in good condition and every time I drive it now I am so nervous! I have another car but I drive the Olds 3-4 times a week and plan to sell the other car, even though its a great car too. my Olds has 240,000 on it and runs like new, while my 2003 Buick has 260,00 on it and runs great too.
Thank you. Wow, the mileage on your cars is very impressive, and that speaks volumes for the maintenance you've performed through the years---great job! Mine only had 123,6XX miles. Now that we're talking mileage, I just happened to snap a pic of the odometer just as it rolled 123456.7. That'* something you don't get to see every day!
Wow sorry to see that. Unfortunately, protecting occupants is every car'* most important job. The only way to keep them from damage is to never drive them. Glad you and your wife came out of it okay!
Maybe someone out there could use a good drivetrain for their H-body or interior parts for their LeSabre.
Thank you! It did it'* job, and we're grateful for that. Once insurance settles up I'm going to decide what to do with the car. If I'm lucky enough to find another clean '90, I'll strip it down and I'll have an outbuilding full of spare GM parts. I'll keep everyone posted as things progress.
