You use the meter to measure the resistance of the POT as you open and close the sensor and you look for dropouts.
Do you know how the sensor works and what a pot (potentiometer) is?

Yes I have a multi meter with ohms. How do you check it just remove it and hook it up to the meter while moving the spring inside?

So I think there are three wires in that which pins do I connect to?
