99 Buick Regal 3.8l only runs with MAF unplugged
#11
I just wanted to let you guys all know, and for others that there was something wrong with the MAF sensor. Stay away from aftermarket MAF sensors for that generation 3.8l motor. Only get GM originals. I talked with the repair shop that put the maf sensor in and told them that it was bad, they said the car had a fairly new maf sensor in it when it originally came in running rough and they put a new one in and tried several others all of which produced the same outcome. they tried suggesting the car needed a new ECM. I talked with the service manager at my local chevrolet dealership and he said he had a buick come in recently with the same issues with a new aftermarket maf sensor and they replaced it with a gm one and the car ran perfect. they told me to get a genuine gm part first before trying anything else. I purchased a used maf sensor from a junk yard and plugged it in and the car started and runs just fine. I had to clear the code set from having the previous maf sensor disconnected, but the used maf sensor was showing 2900 to 3000 hz at idle. hopefully this will help save someone else the headaches. I know the GM maf sensor is not cheap but at least they work!!
