I seem to be asking and answering my own questions. However, this will help someone in the future so I like to update my posts.

Here is a page where the guy has a lot of good information on swapping in trans from different cars and years that use the 4T65E.

Question: How hard is it to overhaul/rebuild this transmission? I have read that one should replace the solenoids; around $60 for the whole set, and I was looking at a complete rebuild kit with the bands; around $260 or so. I am guessing that it is either the torque converter or input shaft so TC is around $120; don't know for the input shaft.

The other path for me is to find a low mileage used one. I see a lot of dealers and I did find a couple with low mileage. I don't want to scrap this car; it is too nice even if getting some age on her.

Even if you got a low mileage used one, before installing it, I would pull that side cover and replace the valve body with new solenoids(While it is easy to do), replace the axle seals and the torque converter seal, dump the fluid out of the torque converter, and then later do a tranny service with a new filter.....

But you have to really love the vehicle and hope it doesn't have other problems, like a leaking water pump, lower intake gaskets, and upper plenum problem, etc.
