2011 Buick Regal rear crankshaft oil leak
Hi. I'm new here and really hope someone can help me.
I'm the original owner of a 2011 Buick Regal CXL RL6 with about 77,000 miles on it. I really love this car and hope to keep it for several more years.
About 9 months ago, my son (who has always maintained my cars) discovered what appeared to be a rear main seal oil leak. He did some research and discovered GM Service Bulletin #14882. He went to our local GM dealer with it, and was told that, although my car exactly fits the problem, my VIN isn't listed as being covered. The service tech promised to look into it for us and see if we could get GM to cover it. Sadly, my son was soon after diagnosed with cancer and he died on January 2. Needless to say, car repairs were the last thing on my mind during his illness, and in the meantime the service tech is no longer there.
This week I went back to the dealer with all of the same information to see if GM would cover the repair. The new service tech called me tonight and told me that, although he agrees that it'* exactly the same problem and thinks GM should cover it, they're refusing. I'm on a fixed income and $1,400 is more than I can afford.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this or another similar issue that they were able to appeal and get GM to cover. If so, how is the best way to appeal their decision? Or does anyone have any recommendations for what I should do? I don't want another car because I really like this one (and I don't want car payments) so any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks in advance.

I'm sorry for your loss.
Ask the dealer who you can call at corporate to escalate this issue. Also find out the criteria for the service bulletin. If you are really near the criteria you can point that out to whoever you talk to about it.
Personally, if the leak isn't too terrible (and GM turns you down) I'd just keep the oil topped off and let it leak before I were to spend $1,400.00 on it. If you have that option, that is.

I'm also sorry to hear about the loss of your son.
Does your Buick Regal have the 2.4 engine?
The PCV is known to freeze/plug up in cold weather and cause the rear main seal to leak.
The TSB # 14882 concerns the PCV and you may experience high oil consumption, so keep an eye on oil level for now.
Are you using a 5W-30 synthetic oil ?
Apparently the dealer is to perform a a crankcase pressure check & if required, remove the intake manifold and clear the PCV orifice.
I don't have the Buick FSM, to obtain the crank case pressure specification. The dealer may have a factory manual handy to look it up.
This crank case pressure specification would definitely be good to know as any shop should then be able to tell if it is indeed plugged up.
I do wonder if simply changing the PCV valve may help things to begin with.
Now feel free to contact "Buick Care" phone number is: 1-800-521-7300
Give them your VIN Number & the TSB # 14882 explain the situation, & and I hope that they can help you out !
