Default 2003 buick rendevouz spedo stepper motor

are these normal to go out on the rendevouz? worked all day until i turned it off at filling station.turned it back on and at idle it read 80mph. continued to rise until it reads way beyond the spedometer.and now it wont move at all. vehicle has 175k

i reset the ipc and it reads normal and works properly but wondering how long before it fails.im guessing its time to look for a new cluster

i imagine its like the heater controls and stuff, the ones in the JY have the same issues as what you have. they have rebuilders that fix it up, thats what i would do
