1996 buick regal 3.8
hi to all,u have a great forum here,i've read alot of threads but don't see what i have exactly..my car is 1996 buick regal v6 3.8 with 67,000 miles. starts up fine, i go where have to go and park it for an hour and when i start it after siting for an hour it'* starts fine i put in gear to take off and i have a very little gas pedal response almost like it'* starving for fuel with a little surging with reduced power,i can put my foot on the brake and still in gear pump the pedal and it will eventually smooth out, this started out doing this last year only on occasions, now it'* every time i use the car.if i drive it and then it sits for 3-6 hours it starts and takes off like nothing was ever wrong...like i said start it and drives fine only after it sits for an hour and u start it and try to take off that when the problem begins. thank you in advance for any suggestions
hi,no lights i just put new plugs, wires back in the spring and today i cleaned the maf throtle body and idle air cont valve,i just came back from a 40 mile run and i'm waiting for 1 hour and then i'm going to start it and see what happens. thanks for ur reply
I'm a little late to the party, but based on your description of the issue, I'd guess that the IAC was gummed up, and is gummier and stickier when it is hot. Sitting while shut off the IAC gets heat soaked. When it is running, ambient air goes through it and cools it off.
hi,thank u for ur response,i believe ur right that iac had never been taken out off that car,and it was pretty dirty,i cleaned the maf and the iac took it for a spin came home and let it sit for 1.5 hours when out and started it and it worked like a charm, smooth take off no problem at all. i would like to thank you sir.i'm retired with limited funds and this really helped me out
I just cleaned my IAC a few days ago as well. Carbon was again built up after a year. Much better now.
I'd like to place a link about IAC cleaning for those that may not have noticed it.

hi and thank you for showing me your experience with the iac,i did strip 1 screw head and the other came with not to much trouble,i did clean the iac with carb cleaner and a soft plastic brush, now the hole that it fit in was very carboned up,this took quite a bit of carb cleaner q tips and some scotchbrite on a 1/4" wooden dowel and it finally came clean,i dont think that the screws had been touched since the day they were installed at the factory,i replaced them with with stainless with a new lock and flat washer, and like u said this needs to become regular maintance that'* for sure. i have a 1995 oldsmobile silhouette van with the 3.8 and i was looking at the iac this morning.it'* a little different setup being that the iac is clocked at about 8 oclock behind the thermostat gooseneck and again those screws were in perfect condition, telling me that iac will be dirty as my 96 buick,i'll start to tackle that one tomorrow.again thank you for the great information
