will a stereo from a 1996 fit a 1991 - GM Forum - Buick, Cadillac, Chev, Olds, GMC & Pontiac chat

Audio (and aftermarket electronics) This is your place for alarms, remote starters, to brag about your system, exaggerate your db levels, or simply ask questions for stock or aftermarket audio. No Flames! (except from roasted amps)

The radios would be the same size, but they have different wiring harnesses. I am sure how hard it would be to change them over.

Best Buy sells adapters for all years of GM cars. To make it easier for you, use 2...one for the 96 which you would wire to the one for the 91, basically making an crossover adapter between the two.

I don't know if this means anything relevant, but I have the radio out of a '96 GA in my '89 bonnie. The wiring just plugged in, but the mounting was a bit different, if I remember right. I think I had to bend a tab out of the way on the radio, and shim it to get it level. Hard to remember the details, it was a 7+ months ago. I don't know anything about car audio though, so if I could do it, anyone with basic tools can.

Hope that helps
