will a stereo from a 1996 fit a 1991

Default will a stereo from a 1996 fit a 1991

my mom has a 91 SSE and needs a new stereo. found one on ebay that is off of a 96. Does anyone know if it will fit? Any advise would be nice

The radios would be the same size, but they have different wiring harnesses. I am sure how hard it would be to change them over.

Best Buy sells adapters for all years of GM cars. To make it easier for you, use 2...one for the 96 which you would wire to the one for the 91, basically making an crossover adapter between the two.

I don't know if this means anything relevant, but I have the radio out of a '96 GA in my '89 bonnie. The wiring just plugged in, but the mounting was a bit different, if I remember right. I think I had to bend a tab out of the way on the radio, and shim it to get it level. Hard to remember the details, it was a 7+ months ago. I don't know anything about car audio though, so if I could do it, anyone with basic tools can.
