First off, I was wondering, as I don't yet have a service manual, if the stock speaker wiring running to the rears is on the driver'* side, as it appears to be emerging from the d-side in the trunk.

Second, I don't have a whole lot of time any given day to throwdown and do the entire HU, amp, speakers, wiring, et al. install in one day, so I thought I'd start with the speakers. Am I taking the risk of damaging my 100w rms Polk db691 3ways by hooking them up and having them grossly underpowered by the (15w?) stock HU?

i was running over 300 RMS thru the stock wiring and Never had a issue with my Full component system in my 93

Though interesting, I was actually thinking more in terms of potential consequences of powering my rears _only_ off of the stock head unit. ie. Stock everything, from stem to stern, then, all-of-the-sudden, it was a dark and stormy night, I only replace the rear 6X9'* while leaving everything else untouched.

in that case, your replacement speakers will be fine with the stock wiring

now be ware you have the Delco amplified system, make sure to do your homework on here because your gonna have 4 wires going to the rear speakers instead of the traditional 2 you would normally find make sure you connect the correct ones

Ah yes - the dreaded Four Wires Of DOOM!
I've got Brown, Yellow, Green, and a nice Baby Blue.
One set is supposed to be for the "Sub" voice coil (blue & green), and the other for the "Full-Range" voice coil(yellow & brown), as I understand. ..and that'* just for the driver'*-side rear speaker.
The other set (for the passenger'* side), I'm assuming, would have to be the dark green & blue/black ("Sub"), and then the dark blue/light blue ("Full-Range").[3 blues on the same side? what genius decided...]

Whether that is accurate, I care only if it is true that I would want to use the wires presumed to be "Full-Range" to hook up my new 3way 6X9'*.

What say you (anyone)?

The right speaker wires should be
Dark Blue +
Light Blue -

The left speaker wires should be
Brown +
Yellow -

I just hooked up my 4-way 6X9'* today and they sound really good. I can leave my music in the center instead of bring it 4+ to the front now.

I doubt it, the delco amp is only wired to the rear deck. So there should only be 2 wires for each front speaker
